Causes Acne?
Acne is caused by the over activity of the glands that secrete oily substances to the surface of your skin. Blackheads and spots usually occur on your face wherever the greatest number of the sebaceous glands exist. Your back, chest and shoulder areas can also be affected.
Several factors are involved in the development of acne. The main cause can be associated to sex hormones which are produced at puberty. The male hormone testosterone (which is found just as naturally in women as it is in men) can trigger the sebaceous gland which produces more of an oily substance called sebum making the skin more greasy. When the skin has an excess of sebum the area around a hair follicle can be come clogged. A bacterium bug called a Propionobacterium that lives normally within your skin can thrive within the blocked pore resulting in an infection which can cause inflammation. The inflammation is what is responsible for the redness and selling of a spot. In some severe cases a pore can rupture and can cause damage to your skin resulting in some form of scarring.
Still, the exact cause of acne is unclear, but more is known about how the spots that accompany acne form. More and more treatments are available to help deal with this distressing condition.
